Sound used in 'At World's End'

During the opening scenes of Pirates Of The Caribbean:At World's End, the sound used is mostly diegetic.

For example, when the scene is first set on the ship, you can hear the pirates working in the background and talking to each other. This gives you a good idea of what the conditions are like on the ship.

Also, the opening scenes replace the need to use non-diegetic sound by having diegetic sound that sounds the same. For example, when the boy is about to be hung, you can hear him singing while the rest of his environment is quiet, this creates the same eerie effect that would be created by using non-diegetic sound.

Although most of the sound used is diegetic, there is also some non-diegetic sound used. For example, when the boy is holding the coin, mysterious music is used. This creates an adventurous and exciting effect, which contrasts with the dark theme used in the next scene.

The reason that the opening scenes of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' has barely any non-diegetic sound in it is because the film starts off with no opening credits, it gets straight into the action so there is no time for any special non-diegetic sounds to be used. Overall, I believe that the use of diegetic sound creates a better eerie atmosphere due to the quietness of the environment that the pirates are in, in addition to this, I believe that simply using diegetic sound makes the situation more intense for the viewer and the opening credits of this film back up his point.
